Visitors are now able to access Esalen as well as other businesses and trails in northern Big Sur via twice-daily convoys on Highway 1 operated by Caltrans.
Convoys run only at 7:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m. each day. These are the only opportunities to travel into and out of Big Sur, so visitors must plan accordingly.

This Advanced Esalen® Massage workshop will address those chronic hot spots that often feel stiff and sore — the shoulder junction and the hip/gluteus/leg junction — and their co-relationship. Posture and attitude play their role in creating discomfort and, ultimately, the breakdown of these always-in-motion segments.
We will review the hidden muscles of the hips and practice body mechanics and leverage, hand positions, and skeletal movements to achieve deep contact with our clients’ bodies. Demonstrations will include the benefits and challenges of massage for those who have undergone joint replacement. We will also review the muscles of the shoulder and learn how to use bones to facilitate release. We’ll practice in prone and supine positions, using stretches to integrate and add playfulness.
This course will briefly review the integrative long strokes elemental to Esalen® Massage and bring home the adage that we are all connected — body, mind, spirit, and community. Discomfort in one area often breeds discomfort in another. By becoming more attuned to our clients, practitioners can innovate and effectively evoke a whole-person sense of comfort and ease.
This workshop is by your request, designed for those with prior massage training who want to learn more. Participants will explore new skills to bring to their practice while the mountainous backdrop, steamy hot springs, and crash of the ocean waves below rebuild our sense of connection, both within and without.

The California Condor is more than North America's largest flying bird— it is a living testament to what becomes possible when a community refuses to give up. Join Cheryl Thiele of the Ventana Wildlife Society for an exploration of the condor's extraordinary journey from the brink of extinction back to the skies of Big Sur. Through stories of conservation, collaboration, and ecological renewal, we'll consider what this remarkable species might teach us about resilience, belonging, and hope.
Artificial intelligence is rapidly changing our world. These tools offer real possibilities for productivity and creativity, while raising many other serious questions.
