Esalen is a not-for-profit holistic educational center offering wild comfort and space for emergent transformation and internal exploration since 1962. Anchored by the inspiring beauty of Big Sur and an incomparable intellectual history, we are always negotiating nuance, tangling with complexity, and sitting inside contradiction. All the while, we embrace the messy, imperfect practice of moving toward our highest humanity. Enter where you are.
Thanks to our friends, we’re able to keep welcoming people to Big Sur. Everyone who becomes a Friend of Esalen by making a donation helps to fund our staff and helps us to survive things like pandemics and fires.
In this workshop, Zuza Engler and Scott Engler guide students to reclaim the body-in-motion as a doorway to the soul’s flow, to the life that is unfolding just under the surface of everyday forgetting. Soul Motion is a meeting with self and others in a free-form dance that is deeply nourishing, creative, intelligent, emotionally savvy, heartbreaking, soul-making, spirited, and transforming.
Sound Healing is one of the oldest and most natural forms of healing known to our planet. By using sound healing intentionally, we have the opportunity to aid in our own healing processes, improve our well-being, and embrace higher consciousness. Join Deva Munay for a deep dive into the science of sound while immersing yourself in the healing vibrations of alchemy crystal singing bowls, sound healing instruments, and your own body as a resonant chamber.
Meditating in noble silence offers a special opportunity to focus inward and deeply connect with oneself, create intentions, and reflect on life goals. Led Dr. Mark Abramson, founder of Stanford University's Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction Program, this workshop will feature periods of noble silence as well as various meditation practices that incorporate both stillness and movement, which will build the momentum of concentration and awareness over the course of the week.

Using the tools of 5Rhythms movement practice combined with a process of grief work grounded in emotional presence, non-judgment, and supportive witnessing, participants will come together in a safe space to help heal mind, body, and spirit.

The first installment of our new, free quarterly digital summit, The Way Forward: How To Stay Inspired, Reintegrate, and Find Hope in the Shadow of the Pandemic will explore the concept of collective trauma, how it both unifies and divides us, and most importantly, how we can face it together to heal on a local and national level. Offered for a sliding scale contribution, the two-day program includes multiple tracks to dig into, from interviews with incredible thought leaders and activists to a session on prolonged somatic grief processing through dance and movement. Each interview will be followed by a live Q&A with the speaker, and every attendee is welcome to join in connecting with our luminaries. In true Esalen style, we will open the event on Saturday and close it on Sunday with a group awareness practice.
