Visitors are now able to access Esalen as well as other businesses and trails in northern Big Sur via twice-daily convoys on Highway 1 operated by Caltrans.
Convoys run only at 7:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m. each day. These are the only opportunities to travel into and out of Big Sur, so visitors must plan accordingly.

Douglas Drummond is a facilitator, mediator, 5Rhythms® teacher, and embodiment practitioner whose work explores how people can create more restorative, resilient, and relational ways of working together. Certified to teach 5Rhythms® by Gabrielle Roth, he has spent more than 15 years facilitating embodied learning experiences that integrate somatic practice, systems thinking, reconciliation, and the dynamics of belonging, power, and relationship.
He is the founder of Weaving Waters, an initiative focused on how we gather, heal, and build stronger relationships across difference. His work includes supporting reconciliation processes between organisations and Indigenous communities, facilitating leadership and systems-change programs, and designing experiential spaces that help people move from intellectual understanding into embodied practice.
Douglas brings a particular interest in the relationship between personal agency, collective healing, and systems change. His facilitation is grounded in curiosity, humility, care, and the belief that meaningful transformation happens through relationship as much as insight. He creates spaces where complexity, difference, and difficult histories can be approached with honesty and compassion, while supporting participants to remain connected to their bodies, their agency, and one another.
