Accommodations

Please register early for the best selection of accommodations. We do our best to accommodate requests for particular rooms or areas on the campus, but cannot guarantee your request can be met.

Standard Shared

Standard rooms accommodate either two or three people. If you are booking as a single participant, you will be housed with others of the same gender. Couples or friends booking standard accommodations together will be housed privately, without a stranger in the room.

Most of our standard accommodations have an in-room bathroom with shower, although in a few cases there is a shared bathroom in the hall. Beds are either double-size or twin-size. Towels, bath soap and bed linens are provided, though you will need to make your bed upon arrival. There are no hair dryers or other toiletries in the rooms, though most necessities can be purchased in the bookstore. You may request a particular bed configuration or room location on property, and we do our best to meet these requests but cannot guarantee that your preferences can be accommodated. Most standard accommodations do not have a balcony.

Single housing in a standard room (i.e. a private standard) may be requested at the time of workshop reservation, but is not guaranteed unless confirmed by the reservations office. Often this does not occur until five days before the start of a workshop, so please be prepared to share the room in the event we cannot confirm the private standard. If available, the cost for a private standard accommodation is an additional $150 per night.

Bunk Bed

Bunk bed accommodations are shared by four to six people of the same gender. All bunk rooms have a bathroom with shower. Towels, bath soap and bed linens are provided, although you will need to make your bed upon arrival. There are no hair dryers or other toiletries in the rooms, but most necessities can be purchased in the bookstore. You may want to bring earplugs if you are a light sleeper or are bothered by the sleep sounds of others.

Sleeping Bag

Sleeping bag space is shared by four to six participants of mixed gender. You cannot access these rooms between 9:00 a.m. and 11:00 p.m., as they may be used for Esalen activities. You will be asked to remove your belongings from the room during the public use hours. While there is shared storage space outside of the meeting room, you may wish to keep your belongings locked inside your vehicle during the day. You are responsible for bringing your own sleeping bag, blankets, pads, pillows, toiletries, etc. Esalen provides towels and face cloths. Some rooms do not include a shower, though shower facilities are available at the baths. You may want to bring earplugs if you are a light sleeper or are bothered by the sleep sounds of others.

All camping or sleeping on the grounds, either in tents, campers, or vehicles of any type is prohibited. We do not have parking space to accommodate RVs.

Premium – Single or Double

Premium rooms offer upgraded bathrooms and decor, as well as enhanced sound and climate insulation, and may feature amenities such as ocean views and in-room Internet and phone. Bed configurations vary. Some rooms contain one queen-size mattress, while some have one double-size and one twin-size. Esalen provides towels, bed linens and bath soap, but rooms do not contain other toiletries or a hair dryer. Many, but not all premium accommodations offer ocean views. Some have Internet access (via ethernet–dongle and cable provided) or in-room telephone. You may request particular bed configurations and amenities (ocean view, Internet and in-room telephone), and we will do our best to honor these requests, although not all rooms offer both. Premium accommodations may be reserved for either one or two guests.
