Did you know that Friends of Esalen has a book club? This month, we’re reading Dr. Qing Li’s 2018 book, Forest Bathing: How Trees Can Help You Find Health and Happiness. In his beautiful book, the author explores the practice of spending mindful, intentional time around trees — what the Japanese call shinrin-yoku, or forest bathing — and how it can promote health and happiness. Packed with illuminating data points, practical tips, and gorgeous photos of lush forests around the world, it’s a wonderful introduction to the magic of walking in the woods. Sign up for a free Friends of Esalen membership to join the conversation.

The book is also available for purchase now in the Esalen bookstore

If you’re interested in delving more deeply into forest bathing and are able to join us at our retreat center in Big Sur, register for our upcoming, in-person workshop, Forest Bathing: Deepening Connection with Nature, Self and Others. From April 16 to April 19th, award-winning filmmaker and trained nature therapist Sylvia Rokab will guide you in slowly moving through the Esalen landscape as you connect to your own power and creativity.
