Esalen is open!

Starting Friday May 17 at 6:30 a.m., Highway 1 north of Esalen will reopen with the use of a 24/7 signalized traffic control, providing unrestricted public access with one-way alternating traffic in both the north and southbound directions. Please plan travel accordingly to accommodate a brief delay of up to 10-15 minutes at the traffic control site.

Highway 1 south of Esalen remains closed. Guests traveling from points south of us, please take the alternate route through Monterey.

Esalen opens May 3, 2024

Visitors are now able to access Esalen as well as other businesses and trails in northern Big Sur via twice-daily convoys on Highway 1 operated by Caltrans.

Convoys run only at 7:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m. each day. These are the only opportunities to travel into and out of Big Sur, so visitors must plan accordingly.

Stella Resnick

Stella Resnick earned her PhD from Indiana University and trained with both Fritz Perls and Laura Perls, the founders of Gestalt Therapy. Stella has focused her professional attention on the ability to embrace pleasure in life and the critical role sexuality plays in holistic health, mental and physical well-being, and happiness in intimate relationships. Stella trained in Psychodrama with co-founder Zerka Moreno. For the past 14 years, Stella has been a part of a peer study group with Dr. Allan Schore, a trailblazing theoretician in the field of neurobiology, on the brain-body-mind connection. Stella has written three books. Her latest book, Body-to-Body Intimacy: Transformation Through Love, Sex, and Neurobiology (2019), is the basis for her development of the Embodied Relational Sex Therapy (ERST) training.

She studied Gestalt therapy with founders Fritz and Laura Perls and Psychodrama with co-founder Zerka Moreno. She trains and supervises therapists and has created Embodied Relational Sex Therapy (ERST), a sex therapy training that she offers on Zoom. She has written three books. Her latest book is Body-to-Body Intimacy: Transformation Through Love, Sex and Neurobiology.
