Visitors are now able to access Esalen as well as other businesses and trails in northern Big Sur via twice-daily convoys on Highway 1 operated by Caltrans.
Convoys run only at 7:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m. each day. These are the only opportunities to travel into and out of Big Sur, so visitors must plan accordingly.

Deborah Anne Medow is a longtime Esalen workshop leader, legacy Esalen® Massage teacher, yoga instructor, and bodywork practitioner whose work has evolved through nearly six decades of exploration, practice, and teaching. She has devoted her life to exploring the many ways touch, movement, awareness, and presence can invite deeper connection with ourselves and one another, sharing her work at Esalen, nationally, and internationally.
Her approach to Esalen® Massage has been enriched by studies in Polarity Therapy, Craniosacral Therapy, Deep Tissue work, Gestalt Awareness Practices, Yoga, and a wide range of movement and awareness practices. Rather than following a prescribed formula, Deborah works intuitively and responsively, listening with both heart and hands to what is present in each moment.
Deborah brings warmth, curiosity, and a lively sense of humor to her teaching. She creates an environment that is welcoming, engaging, and deeply respectful, inviting people to slow down, become curious, and listen more deeply while deepening their connection with themselves and others.
