The Esalen Massage Intensive is for those interested in embodying themselves more fully while learning how to connect with others through the healing touch of massage. It’s also for professionals seeking to refresh their skills. The instructors have noted senior practitioners with decades of experience teaching Esalen Massage, including meditation, movement, sensory awareness and much more, all presented in a nourishing and healing context.

The Esalen® Massage melds massage with awareness practices and recognizes the unity of body, mind, and spirit. The massage focuses on contact and awareness rather than a quick fix, honoring our natural impulse toward health and healing.

The fundamental practice of Esalen Massage includes grounding, moving from the center, quality of touch, proper draping, classic Esalen long lengthening strokes, and learning how to listen to each person and each body. Skills to address stress in the neck, shoulders and low back, just to name a few, will also be presented. Energy awareness and methods to help balance the subtle energy of the body and emotions are included. There will be plenty of hands-on, supervised practice with your classmates.

In this workshop you will learn …

  • To quiet your mind so you can experience each moment more fully.
  • Key elements of self-care and movement.
  • How to give and receive a basic Esalen Massage.
  • A new way to connect with others.

This is not a professional training course, however, you will come away with an incredible array of new awarenesses and skills. Come prepared to fully participate as you enjoy an immersion in the offerings of Esalen Institute.
