Visitors are now able to access Esalen as well as other businesses and trails in northern Big Sur via twice-daily convoys on Highway 1 operated by Caltrans.
Convoys run only at 7:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m. each day. These are the only opportunities to travel into and out of Big Sur, so visitors must plan accordingly.

Brandt Miller is a Somatic Experiencing® Practitioner and collective and ancestral trauma facilitator whose work brings together embodiment, breathwork, storytelling and experiences in the wild. He is the founder of Steppe & Soul, a platform offering immersive pilgrimages and transformational journeys rooted in place and embodied experience.
Brandt holds an MFA in writing from Columbia University. Before moving into facilitation, he worked for over a decade as a writer and producer across documentary, media, and technology, including producing for National Geographic and Science and Nonduality. A Creative Fulbright Fellow in Mongolia, he has spent twenty years working across cultures and exploring how place, story, and lived experience shape the ways human beings make meaning of their lives.
Central to Brandt’s work is the relationship between the nervous system and our deeper essence, and how greater connection with the body can open pathways to healing, creativity, and purpose. He is currently completing a book about the journey of change, drawing together his work as a writer, facilitator, and explorer of vast landscapes — inner and outer — that shape transformation.
