Esalen is open!

Visitors are currently able to access Esalen as well as other businesses, parks, and trails in northern Big Sur via twice-daily convoys on Highway 1 operated by Caltrans.

Convoys run only at 7:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m. each day. Until approximately May 27, 2024 these are the only opportunities to travel into and out of Big Sur, so visitors must plan accordingly.

Due to road closures along Highway 1 to our north and south, Esalen is closed through April 11.

Willa Blythe Baker

Willa Blythe Baker, PhD, is a meditation teacher, author, and the founder of Natural Dharma Fellowship and its retreat center, Wonderwell Mountain Refuge, in Springfield, New Hampshire. Willa has a doctorate from Harvard University and was a visiting lecturer at Harvard Divinity School, 2013-2017. Her books include The Wakeful Body: Somatic Mindfulness as a Path to Freedom, The Arts of Contemplative Care: Pioneering Voices in Buddhist Chaplaincy and Pastoral Work, and Essence of Ambrosia, a translation of a 17th-century Tibetan meditation manual.  She is a fellow with the Mind and Life Institute and has been contemplative faculty with One Earth Sangha, Sangha Live, Barre Center for Buddhist Studies, the Omega Institute, and Kripalu Center for Yoga and Health. She is a member of Clark University’s Council of the Uncertain Human Future and sits on the advisory board for One Earth Sangha.

At present, Willa writes, teaches, guides meditation retreats, and develops curriculum for people interested in cultivating a deep meditation practice in daily life. Her teaching interests include the wisdom of the body, eco-dharma, non-dual awareness, and compassion.
