During the days before Halloween, we'll celebrate the spirit of this earthy season. The festivities will include a Saturday night bonfire (weather permitting) with face painting, fun stories, lively songs, and, of course, costumes. We'll also go on a short trick-or-treat adventure to receive some healthy treats. During the daytime, we'll be honored to visit our good friend, the Garden, where we will harvest from our own special patch planted for us by the garden crew, and create garden-to-table snacks to share. We'll also carve or decorate pumpkins, collect wonderfully fragrant savory herbs to take home for holiday feasting, plant seeds to be enjoyed by a later group of families, and take home some seedlings ourselves. Halloween also can be a time to honor ancestors; we will create an ancestor altar out of natural objects, and add any pictures or mementos you would like to bring. There will be time for big energy with games and expansive play, and time for settling down for circle time and sharing. Harvest festivals remind us of the abundance of the earth, and the good feeling that comes when we share and celebrate with others. We will honor this deeper spirit as we frolic and play throughout the weekend.
Please bring a costume if you or your child would like one. Ages 3 and up are welcome.
