Anyone who bathes in a mineral hot springs knows firsthand the rejuvenating effects of a hot soak in a natural setting. Multiple cultures, including Japanese, Israeli, Turkish, German, and Californian, have studied the healing benefits of water. Instructor Barbara Braunstein will share her hydrotherapy know-how of hot, cold, and comfort, and how she infuses her knowledge into each one of her massage sessions. Barbara offers hydrotherapy theory and methods, and Brita Ostrom will put this information to use in the flowing signature connection of Esalen Massage.
Classes will include the use of hot and cold methods, compresses, cherry pit pillows, and footbaths, and a class in the natural hot springs. While hydrotherapy provides a soothing backdrop for a holistic Esalen Massage, it can also provide direct first aid for conditions such as headaches and muscle cramps.
This workshop is for long-term practitioners who want to make their work more effective and easier on their hands, beginning students looking for the basic foundations of Esalen Massage and self-care, and also for those who simply want to experience the joys of cold and hot water in the service of healing. It also is especially useful for those in the helping and healing professions in working with their clients and patients.
