In the age of Instagram and the unprecedented taking and sharing of photos, how can we bring a deeper consciousness to this process to enrich our art and our lives? In a time of hyper connectivity, how can photography truly help us engage — both to the world around us and within us? At every step, photography is a balancing of relationships (light and shadow, time and space, self and other), the merging of which creates a still moment, a meditation. At once a receptor and projector of light, the camera becomes a meditative tool for dissolving and distilling these relationships.
A dive into the natural beauty of Esalen and Big Sur, this workshop offers hands-on creativity while challenging basic assumptions about how we engage with our environment. Daily photo assignments and excursions, coupled with group feedback, hone skills and encourage going close, noticing relationship, and observing patterns. The workshop is best suited for people with at least a beginner’s understanding of photography, but all levels can find a comfortable fit. Please bring your own digital camera, laptop, and photo software, if possible. Or if you'd like to experiment with your iPhone 5 and up, that's okay too. Enrollment is limited for an optimal and intimate group experience.
