Throughout their lives, men are encouraged to play by the “rules of masculinity.” These rules about what is acceptable for men often involve inhibiting the spontaneous, creative, vulnerable, authentic, and care-free aspects of the self. This five-day experience is intended to help men re-discover the pure joy of feeling alive. As a group, we will explore what it means to be a fully present and authentic man. By sharing our stories of challenges, relationships, hardships, dreams, and desires, we will build a community of trust, permission, and healing. Time will feel different for participants. There will be a value on our process that puts our quick, results-oriented expectations on the back burner. The facilitators view these five days as an opportunity for participants to deepen their self-understanding and work through blocks to inner freedom. We will help each other expand our emotional repertoires through facilitated exercises and a willingness to meet each participant where he is. The group will become an arena to share fears, work on trusting our internal guides, and make solid connections with others. This experience is for men of all ages and backgrounds. The facilitators have known each other for decades and have experienced and taught workshops for men at Esalen together over many years.
