When faced with a blank canvas (or page), we need the intention to create, an inspirational idea, and the courage to begin. During this hands-on painting workshop, you’ll explore a variety of practices, mind-sets, and methods that will give you a “way in” to executing your own work. In a safe and non-judgmental environment, you’ll have the chance to play with multiple art-making methods including collage, color-field painting, drawing, sketching, and uncensored writing. Each art-making experience is accompanied by time for reflection and dialogue, allowing you a deeper understanding of your own creative center. Successful artists do not wait for inspiration to strike. They maintain a regular practice that keeps their skills honed and hands ready to explore a new idea. This workshop offers artists and non-artists alike essential tools for identifying pathways to their inner creativity, building a creative practice, and working through creative blocks. Award-winning artists and teachers Erin Lee Gafill and her husband Tom Birmingham have taught this workshop on three continents to students of all ages.
