In this silent retreat for lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer, and intersex people, we will be practicing meditation together to develop wisdom and compassion toward our own lives and the world. Cultivating a clear mind and loving heart can best be done with the support of community.
Insight meditation with mindfulness will be taught as well as loving-kindness or metta practice. There will be opportunities to learn meditation while sitting, walking, lying down, standing, listening, and eating. The emphasis will be on the gentle continuity of loving attention. We will spend time in solitude enjoying the beautiful nature around us as well as being together in a supportive silence. The practice will be supported by guided meditations, dharma talks, time for questions, and small group check-ins. This retreat is suitable for beginners or experienced practitioners.
The juice cleanse, New Year, New You!, scheduled for January 7-9, is not available for participants of this workshop.
Please note: The entire Esalen campus will be practicing noble silence, including time in and out of workshops, during meals, at the hot springs, and in the evenings. This time is intended for those who wish to practice a week of deep meditation or contemplation in silence. Normal Esalen movement classes and offerings will likely be modified during this special week.
