Come learn how to abide in the heart of loving presence. Awareness as developed through mindfulness practice, and the qualities of love developed through loving kindness (metta) meditation, are essential and beautiful aspects of living an awake life. During this course, we will explore the ways that mindfulness leads to clarity and insight and how love opens the heart and allows a kind embrace of ourselves and life. This fusion of love and mindfulness supports a compassionate response to the pain that we encounter in ourselves and in the world.
In this creative week of meditation practice, we’ll discover how these qualities are mutually supportive and how they are necessary in any journey of awakening and in learning to live wisely and compassionately in the world. We will draw guidance from teachings and practices of Buddhism, and inspiration from poets and compassionate figures throughout history who express through words and actions the power of love and its response to suffering in the world.
In this retreat, there will be comprehensive meditation instruction in mindfulness practice as well as meditations on love, compassion, joy, and equanimity. There will be talks, group discussions, mindful movement, and taking time to meditate in the beautiful setting at Esalen. The workshop is suitable for everyone.
