Esalen Massage is a unique style that reflects an attitude about touching that goes beyond physical manipulation. Practitioners of Esalen Massage think holistically and acknowledge the intimate relationship of the physical body with thoughts, emotions, and spirit, and additionally, to the connection with the world around us. At the heart of this method is compassion and gratitude. Expressed through the language of touch, the intention is to facilitate an individual in restoring a sense of harmony and to awaken inner resources for healing. Esalen Massage is an approach of listening, responding, flowing, and pausing that makes for an extraordinary experience.
This 175-hour certification training is open to nonprofessionals and professionals. For newcomers to the field, it provides a foundation from which to grow, and for those already certified in other modalities, it offers a fresh approach for practitioners and their clients.
Classes include lectures and demonstrations of fundamental massage skills and supervised practice sessions amongst the class participants. Students learn the appropriate use of joint mobilizations and stretching, professional draping, and how to conduct an interview with their clients. The study of massage technique will be augmented through applied anatomy, ethics and business practices, pathology, methods of self-care and self-knowledge. Emphasis is on supporting students to develop a balance between technique, intuition and creativity. The primary teaching method is experiential learning.
Upon satisfactory completion, and after documenting thirty additional massages at your home site, a California State Approved Certificate of Completion will be issued. The certification fee is $115. Students seeking to fulfill the California State Certified Massage Practitioner requirements may add 3 additional catalog bodywork courses to equal 250 hours of training.
