Help Esalen Weather the Storm
Give to the Emergency Closure Relief Fund
“Let's rest assured that Esalen’s mission and destiny won’t be waylaid by any particular road gap or mudslide. Esalen’s heart beats much deeper than any person, idea, or period of weather intensity.”
— Ken Dychtwald, PhD, CEO of AgeWave, noted author, and 2016 Esalen Prize recipient
The extreme winter weather in our home in Big Sur, California, has resulted in multiple landslides isolating Esalen from both the north and the south. A state of emergency has been declared for our area. A small, extraordinary team of dedicated staff remains at Esalen to care for the property which also has sustained damage due to heavy rainfall.
Esalen has been closed since February 12 and will reopen June 9 for public workshops. This is the longest closure in our recent history.
And while Esalen itself may feel farther away for a little while, we know that we are part of a larger, global community that is always connected. As a nonprofit organization, we rely on the generous support of our friends. That support is even more critical now as workshop revenue makes up nearly 90% of our operating budget.
When we reopen, we will do so more committed and inspired to be of service to our world due in no small part to the generous support of our friends. Every gift matters. And when you give before May 31, 2017, your gift will be doubled by a special gift match by Esalen's Board of Trustees with 10% of every gift allocated to our scholarship fund.
