Sequencing is a term used in yoga meaning how poses are linked together. If a single pose is a word, then a sequence is a poem. Sequencing is both an art in understanding how the body moves, and a discovery of what the body needs to find its natural balance, strength, flexibility, and expression through movement. Sequencing usually has a specific goal in mind: to balance mood, restore sleep cycles, build energy, and more.
There are many tools in yoga that greatly enhance, support, and liberate the body’s full potential for increased range of movement and help align the spine with the limbs. As in any art form, a tool is just a tool unless one fully understands how to use it with some degree of mastery. As we expand our yoga toolkit to include rollers, straps, movement practices, pressure points, mudras, and creative use of blocks, we simultaneously can learn techniques to open the body lovingly and kindly.
