Daniel Rechtschaffen, MFT,
is a marriage and family therapist and author of The Way of Mindful Education: Cultivating Well-Being in Teachers and Students. He organizes the Mindfulness in Education conference at the Omega Institute, and leads mindfulness trainings for schools and communities around the world.
Research shows that mindfulness practices can decrease stress, anxiety, and depression in children, while improving emotional regulation, ability to focus, and social relations — all proven contributors to academic achievement. With mindfulness, social and emotional literacy, empathy training, and other awareness-based practices, educators around the world are helping youth to cultivate insight, compassion, and attention. When learned at a young age, these skills have the capacity to transform lives, families, and societies.
In this workshop, Daniel and Ben will lead you through writing exercises and meditations designed to engage the senses and help you tap into your reservoirs of memory, imagination, and direct awareness — reservoirs you may not even know you have. Steeped in contemplative practices of qigong, nature awareness, and mindfulness, we will learn how to let our writing arise from a sense of presence and attunement. While writing, we will strive to be as open and honest as possible, allowing the creative process to carry us away.
