Please note: in 2017 we will be offering an Extended Student position in the Farm & Garden through Esalen’s Residential Education Department in lieu of the Apprenticeship: A Program in Community Agriculture.
If you are interested in applying for this opportunity, please email firstname.lastname@example.org for an application.
Apprentice dates and deadlines for 2018 TBD.
You must be 21 years or older and a United States citizen or legal resident to participate in the apprenticeship program.
Apprentices participate a total of 40 hours per week (hours may vary week to week and the relevant schedule will be provided upon arrival). The apprentice workday is from 7:00 AM to 4:00 PM with a 30-minute breakfast break at 9:15 AM and 60-minute lunch break at 1:00 PM, Monday through Friday. Apprentices may occasionally be scheduled for weekend duties. Full commitment to this schedule is essential.
Apprentices pay room and Board fees of $450/month. Twelve-month apprentices are responsible for paying $5,400 for their apprenticeship, which can be paid in lump sum or in monthly payments. For information on our scholarship program, please click here.
Esalen provides accommodations for all apprentice positions – generally shared double rooms. Limited housing is available on Esalen’s main campus; a majority of the units are located a mile and half north at Esalen’s staff housing property.
Use of the site and facilities — including hot springs, gym and movement classes — is included in the apprenticeship. The entire community and those attending workshops share all meals in our main lodge, which serves healthy and — when possible — local and organic meals three times a day.
No pets are permitted.
