Are you looking for a challenging, fun, and rewarding internship experience with Gazebo Park School?
Internships at Gazebo are a three-month commitment with a fee of $450 for each month. You will receive room, board, two sessions with an Esalen student advisor, and access to Esalen’s movement arts program and extended study programs.
Being a Gazebo intern is hard work, challenging, fun, and very rewarding. It is a period of deep experiential inquiry and study — within and without. As an intern, you will be asked to keep a journal and complete some written assignments.
The first month focuses on observation, and you will be recording written observations of what goes on in the Park. In the second month you will study how you are affected by what you experience with the children and how you may bring what you are learning into the rest of your life. During the third month you will be asked to prepare a final project.
California State law mandates that all adults participating in a program with children have a clear criminal record background check and have had a negative TB test within the last 12 months. Another prerequisite for applying for this position is that you have had experience in early childhood education or sustainability education. Applicants may also meet selection criteria if they have completed two (preferably three) Esalen Work Study programs.
Interns must be ready to be fully present and committed to the children and the Gazebo program. Interns have shared housing in the "farmhouse," which is an older structure with an incredible ocean view. The farmhouse is also the schoolhouse when it is raining or when we have evening meetings. While there is the advantage of a real home atmosphere (kitchen, phone, TV, fireplace), there is also the responsibility of maintaining a safe and appropriate space for children in accordance with state licensing regulations.
It is also important to know that we live and work with many animals (currently 2 goats, chickens, 1 rooster, and 2 cats), and you will be expected to help in the care of them with appropriate guidance and training for their care and feeding given upon your arrival.
