Before preparing your application to the Farm and Garden Apprenticeship, carefully read all the material presented about the Farm and Garden, and on the general Apprenticeship Page. Please consider how well the program fits your interests and goals, as well as your current life situation and availability. It is essential that applicants have a realistic sense of the scope, structure and requirements of the program before applying.
We prefer to receive your Apprentice Application (download below) and associated materials (resume, photo) electronically. Please fill out our Apprenticeship Application Form, answering the questions and uploading any accompanying materials (photo, resume, references) into that document. Once you submit your Apprenticeship Application Form, you will receive an email confirmation of receipt.
If a digital application process is logistically impossible for you because of internet/computer access or capability, please contact the Farm and Garden (email@example.com) and we will endeavor to arrange another method of application.
Once the application deadline passes, the Farm and Garden will review applications and consider individuals for the available positions, endeavoring to make and communicate their final decision to all applicants within one month of the application deadline. Farm and Garden staff will be in touch if they would like to schedule an interview (in person or by phone). If you have not received word after one month since the deadline, please feel free to follow up (firstname.lastname@example.org).
If you are able to visit and volunteer on a weekday before or within one month after the application deadline, it helps the staff to get to know you as an applicant (see below).
If you plan to apply for scholarship funds, please make sure to submit your Apprenticeship Scholarship Application Form by the session’s application deadline as well.
Please contact the Farm and Garden directly for questions about the Apprenticeship program or the application process. Email is the preferred method of contact for Apprenticeship inquiries and questions: email@example.com.

Visiting the Farm and Garden as an Apprentice Applicant
To be considered for the apprenticeship program, you are strongly encouraged to attend at least one garden volunteer day at Esalen to introduce yourself and get a feel for a typical day within the department. To be a garden volunteer you need to schedule this in advance using the contact information below. A volunteer day can be scheduled on weekdays from 7 am to 1 pm.
You need not stay all day, but are encouraged to use the time to get to know the Farm and Garden staff and familiarize yourself with the rhythm of the land. More information can be found by clicking here.
After submitting your application, you may be asked to come for a working interview as part of our selections process.
Such arrangements are at the discretion of the Farm and Garden staff and will not be extended to all of those who apply. Phone interviews will be requested for individuals unable to attend a working on-site interview due to access or geographic distance.
