Human Resources Assistant
Job Summary
Esalen Institute, the pioneering educational organization dedicated to personal and social transformation, is now hiring for the position of HR Assistant. This full-time position (40 hours per week) is responsible for assisting the HR Manager in the daily running of a busy HR office.
Responsibilities
- Administer health, dental, FSA, COBRA, benefits for new, existing and exiting employees.
- Assist with orientation of new hires.
- Data entry and daily maintenance of HRIS.
- Coordinate meetings, take notes and housing for staff week.
- Assist HR Manager in monthly housing changes, including maintenance of staff and extended student lists.
- Maintain personnel action forms and coordinate changes/updates with payroll staff.
- Submit and report all new worker compensation cases to our WC carrier and provide all necessary follow-up and documentation as needed.
- Ensure the Institute is Cal-OSHA compliant.
- Maintain and file day-to-day HR records.
- Provide customer service to Esalen staff and the greater community as it relates to all human resources, housing, and safety.
- Other various tasks as assigned.
Experience, Qualifications, Skills
- 2 plus years of benefits administration and/or general HR experience preferred.
- Ability to maintain a high-level of confidentiality.
- Detail oriented and accurate.
- Must be able to relate well to others and be able to lead a team in an emergency.
- Ability to handle difficult situations, and the people involved, through written correspondence, in person and on the telephone, all with grace and tact.
- Common sense and empathy.
Physical Requirements
While performing the duties of this job, the employee must be able to maneuver on uneven ground, sit for long periods of time, occasionally carry and lift up to 25 pounds, and be able perform daily repetitive hand motions as it pertains to computer mouse and keyboard.
Compensation
Compensation is $1,250 per month, plus housing, if available, or a housing allowance. Full health benefits, HAS contribution and annual vacation are provided.
