Anisa Mehdi, Emmy Award-winning journalist and filmmaker, was a 2009-2010 Fulbright Scholar in Amman, Jordan. Her commitment to broadening American understanding of Arabs, Islam, Muslims, and the possibility of interfaithfulness is reflected in her reports on religion and the arts. Anisa is the first American woman to cover the Hajj for US broadcast. She produced and directed the acclaimed National Geographic documentary “Inside Mecca.” Anisa has taught at Jordan Television, Seton Hall University, and plays the flute in the Livingston Symphony Orchestra.
A graduate of Wellesley College and the Graduate School of Journalism at Columbia University, Anisa is thrilled to serve with the Esalen community where she brings an international sensibility and a focus on cultural diplomacy. She is also a trustee of The Shakespeare Theatre of New Jersey. Anisa lives in New Jersey with her husband, Esalen workshop leader Peter Zimmermann and their two daughters.
